Nu Fonix, founded by a group of Space-Nuns and Orphans fleeing from the Siege of Phonics, is a major industrial center of the Reading System.

Government

The planet is governed by an elite council of high ranking Space-Nuns, known collectively as the Nunocracy. They strictly regulate all aspects of life on the planet.

Ascent to Power

Shortly after the planet's founding, the Space-Nuns overthrew charismatic leader Cho Gayjara in a coup rumored to have been arranged in conjunction with the Semantics Gestapo. The Space-Nuns deny this (and any other political relationship with the Gestapo), claiming Cho was killed by an assassin acting independently. The Gestapo also deny the rumors; a spokesman has been quoted as saying, "Of course I didn't kill him. Really."

Following Cho's death, the Nuns announced they would do their best to take care of the planet's enormous population of orphans.

Policies

In accordance with this "selfless desire to provide for the less fortunate," the Nuns enacted several measures for the orphans' "own good." Each orphan builds character from a young age through heavy manual labor. Their education is also provided for. Taught from a young age to respect authority and work hard, the Nuns ensure that every student knows enough by second grade to skip directly to fourth grade.

At the age of ten, every orphan is matched to the occupation in which the Nun's calculate he or she will be most productive. The Nun's seize all profit made on the planet, and invest it for the "common good", which consists primarily of luxurious palaces for government officials.

At the age of 18, most of the former orphans are rounded up and deported from the planet to make their fortune in the Gramma-Verse. None are ever heard from again. Some, however, are kept around long enough to marry and have several children before meeting with unfortunate accidents, thus renewing the population of orphans.

Giant posters of Cho can be seen throughout the planet, and orphans are taught about how he is responsible for their freedom, and the great friendship he enjoyed with the Space-Nuns, from whom all blessings flow.

Military

Few forces would dare engage the Space-Nun Space Force. However, for obvious reasons, Nu Fonix is a prime target for Dino-Naut raiders. In response to this threat, the Space-Nuns invented the Orphan Mutation Frequency Galvanizer, which led to such creations as Carnivorous Orphan Hybrid Experiment #5534. After the magnitude of the project's success became apparent when COH5534 annihilated an Elite Covert Commando Raptor Assault Unit, the Dino-Nauts immediately ceased their raids on the planet, and no one else has even considered attacking.

Economy

Nu Fonix, though lagging in technological innovation, is a manufacturing powerhouse. It has a greater per-capita income than any other planet in the Gramma-Verse, despite the fact that 98% of its population wallows in abject poverty.

Infrastructure

Since 98% of the planet lives in their workplaces, the Nunocracy does not need to invest much in roads and space ports. Massive incinerators provide half the planet's power. These incinerators are conveniently located near the "Eighteen and Over" star ports, which, the Nuns explain, take a lot of energy to power.

The remaining half of the planet's energy comes from Cho's corpse. Following his death, the body rolled over so much that the Nuns decided to attach magnets to it and stick it inside a turbine.
